Journal GMontag's Journal: Drug War Stuff at Reason Magazine 2

Never Say Never Get Busted Again Radley Balko | January 2, 2007, 10:00am

For those who don't know, a former Law Enforcement Official (LEO) published a video on how to hide contraband. Per the linked story, the video can only be purchased with a credit card. Now, doesn't that raise some immediate suspicion? Does with me and I am not even in the set of possible customers.

Granted, there are lots of valid reasons on the part of the seller to use a credit card only system, like convenience of the seller and the fact that a Visa backed card of some kind is available to almost anybody. Still, plenty of "underground" information sources make their material available without the need of an easily traceable payment method.

I have not researched how to get an anonymous credit card, but am pretty sure it can be done, legal or not. IIRC, there was an anonymous snail-mail remailer operating in the USA a few years ago, not sure if it is still around. Getting an anonymous post office box is difficult, but not impossible too. 2600 Magazine has articles on this occasionally.

As I mentioned in the comments at Reason, I would not trust much of the news group discussions on the techniques in the video. If this is just another undercover operation, then newsgroup discussions will be integrated into it also.

Before anybody flies off with 'entrapment' talk, please learn what that is both legally and in common terms? This video may be all sorts of things, but entrapment is not one of them.
