Solely somewhere to tack stuff down.

  • Now what do we do about it. (Like we could.)
    (Oh yeah, first post.)
    • Well, if you're really inclined to do something about it, we could start our own news site--oh wait, been done. Or--wait. You get the idea. Some of the point is just to start the flow of ideas (again), and I'd like to see something happen, I just don't know what. I realize there's very little we can probably do (especially that hasn't already been tried), but at the very least we can add to the voice of all those who have complained in the past, even if we probably won't be heard.

Yes, I'm being idealistic. I'm not old enough to be bitter and cynical yet.

      • Well, the problem really is (I think) just a few of the editors with an axe to grind (Michael, for instance). I think the /. works basically well except when an editor starts being pissy about things.

I don't know.... What if everyone changed our .sigs to compalin publicly (sp?) about it? Of course, that would shoot our karma down quickly to (maybe.)

        • To get our sigs noticed, we have to get posts that are read by many.

To get our posts read by many, we have to get modded up.

To get our posts modded up, for the most part, we can't have things like that in our sigs.

For the most part /. does work pretty well, but on certain issues it's not even worth using mod points -- if you disagree with the masses on their issues (for instance, MS), they use their mod points to undo the effects of yours; if you disagree with the editors on their issues (for instance, editor moderation), they use their unlimited mod points to prevent anyone else from agreeing.

Democracy is great, until you realize the masses get votes too.

To the systems programmer, users and applications serve only to provide a test load.

Working...
