Journal QuaintRealist's Journal: Changin' ways of Slashdot 2

Anyone care to comment on why people post "Slashdot has gone down hill" comments so often? I don't miss much about the "old" slashdot - the trolls, page-wideners, links that misled... OK, once /. felt more like an exclusive club than it does now, but that feeling didn't last long.

Does anybody really miss the old days enough to remind me what I'm missing? I did take a pretty long hiatus...

  • Well, /. does feel a tad different, but it might be due to surfing habits.

    I like the fact that the stories are still moderated and I also like the more intelligent discussion than on other tech news sites *cough* *digg* *cough*. That other site-which-shall-not-be-named *does* pick up stories faster (usually), tho and I find myself hitting there and then going here, especially since I cannot stand the 13 year olds there.

    • I totally agree w/ your assement with regard to digg - I just don't have time for the noise/signal ratio. Slashdot, really, seems to provide pretty good discussion, especially at about a +2 or so comment level.

      The thing that I think has been better is the variety of expertise. We still have lots of IT folks, which is great for a tech site, but have picked up a lot of other folks as well. For that matter, I guess I'm one of them.
