Journal UseTheSource's Journal: Range Report. 12

I had some fun tonight. :D I figured I'd go to the range, since I haven't been there in over a month. That, and I needed to do something to get my mind off everything that's been going on lately.

I found out that:
  1. I could still hit the broad side of a barn.
  2. Uzis are really cool. The guy in the lane next to me was blasting away in bursts of full auto fire.
  3. I really like Springfield XDs (who'da thunk?)
  4. My self control is pretty good, since I didn't buy an XD, or the SIG or Makarov I was looking at.

Here's a neat picture of an empty ammo box I shot up. I thought it was interesting how the shots that hit the edge of the box did that. Of course, I wouldn't have expected any different from something travelling between 1000 and 1200 FPS. ;)

As you can see from the powder residue around the muzzle in this picture, I had tons of fun tonight! :)

Oh, and... the XD-9 I tried out was really nice. I may just have to get one someday.

  • I like my XD9. The only problem I have with the XD9 is the fact that I have small hands, so after the first few shots I tend to pull my shots down and to the right. Over flexing of the grip hand if I remember a conversation dexterpexter and I had about shooting oh so long ago. And this is really after I held alot of pistols trying to find one that fit me well.

I really do enjoy the pistol, but its not my favorite favorite pistol that I have. I shoot my Springfield GI 1911A1 quite a bit better. I think it
    • Yeah, I'm still a 1911 die hard. I rarely, if ever, carry anything but my Auto Ordnance 1911 or my Kimber. As someone with smallish hands as well, I find the 1911 a perfect fit, ergonomically-speaking. Very pointable, controllable, and a slim design that tucks well against my side.

I was actually looking at the XD-9 or the SIG P228 for my fiancée for work (security guard)... I really had my eye on the Bulgarian Makarov for myself, though. Very cheap, but a reliable weapon. And kind of a neato t
    • Speaking of ergonomics, one thing I do like about my SW99 I was shooting, are the interchangeable backstraps. I have the medium one in, and it really fits my hand well.

I was actually thinking of a Walther P99 in 9mm (my SW99 is a .40), as a shooter. 9mm is more economical to shoot.
  • I was using my weapon of choice and playing on the range last night..
OK so my weapon of choice is a Harmonica in the key of C ;) and the range was "Home on the Range" then a 12 bar blues .. but it's close
If used badly both can be dangerous weapons .
Seriously though .. nothing wrong with a good old riffle range .. I preferred to play with hunting riffles , or scoped riffles .
I like the one shot marksman deal rather than automatic fire, I was also an exception shot with a pistol .
I don't really like having gu
    • How many decibels does your weapon produce? :P

I suppose how deadly your weapon is, depends on how dreadfully you play.

I used to go to a summer camp near Aberdeen Proving Grounds here in the US, which I suppose was named after your Aberdeen. From across the Chesapeake Bay, we'd watch (and hear) as they blew stuff up all day. :D

The place must look like Tim the Enchanter's moonscape, by now.
      • The black dog was just a riffle range , Mostly for sharp shooting . ;) I assume it is a very different Aberdeen .. considering my Aberdeen was founded in the first century CE and is filled with large granite buildings that are a few hundred years out .
No idea how much dB the riffles were , but I had ear muffs on , they were military riffles though .. so i assume it was quite loud
  • ... and discovered that my workplace blocks firearms sites.
    • Yeah, I could go into a whole tirade on my workplace's stupid reasoning behind that. Unfortunately, it's a losing battle to take it up with a management that attaches such a negative stigma to things as "obviously bad" as firearms. I had a heated argument with one of our proxy admins over it, one time.
