modi123's Journal: impending layoffs..

so my company is having the threat of layoffs and selling a large portion off for a month or so now... apparently the ball has been moving, and right in time for the holidays. hopefully I am not part of the gutting of my company, but then again I am not sure if staying around in the wake of the aftermath when people are picking up the pieces..

Having been through this before, here is some advice:
1) buy some books to read which will expand your skillset, and take them to work. A company going through major layoffs will often have downtime for its remaining employees as it figures out who does what. this has a double benefit: you can look good for the existing employer (if asked, you are trying to increase your value to the company by expanding the range of tasks you can handle for them blah blah blah), and if you do wind up moving to a different

Thanks for the advice.. after alreadying having large layoffs in july of this year, and seeing it quite a bit over the course of my seven-some-old years with the company, I know the drill pretty well. As of yet, no black thursday. Maybe black friday? - modi
