More Slashdotters Use ....?

Comments Filter:
  • ...only like 10% of slashdot readers comment, so most of the slashdot readers DO use Windows, they're just afraid to comment (because of the lashing they'd get from Linux elitists).
    • I use Windows at work and at home and I'm not afraid to tell somebody when they ask me. Then again, I've posted Besides, I'm the kind of guy that doesn't care what I use, just as long as it does the job well.

  • 13% use Macs? That seems a stretch. But those people are well known for bombing polls to get their point across.

33% use Linux? I doubt it. Not as a main box. I see far too many comments about games only available on Windows, about Outlook, about IIS. No, I think this is kiddies pretending to use it.

My 'main' computer? WinXP. With OpenOffice, Mozilla, WinAmp, etc.

Where is the storage? On the Linux box, happily droning along next to it.

Bleh. Like someone said, check the server logs. That'll tell you what people use.

  • That Windows, more than Linux, still has the marketshare, and the mindshare of most people on the Internet. Linux is still the New Kid on the Block and the numbers reflect this.

You really can look at Slashdot as two camps (which can be further broken down, of course): those who post, and those who don't. Among "those-who-don't" as someone has already pointed out, Windows still reigns supreme.

Even among "those-who-post" Windows will still boast significant numbers, mainly because posts like this do not account for dual-booters, and those like me who typically don't have a "main machine" because they have several and swap between them all during the day.

Even so, at least here, most of the machines I bop around run Linux, and the one that runs Windows sits here right beside the beefy Linux box. Main machine? What's that? I'll have a "main machine" when I have one box that can do it all, damn the OS that's behind it!

(I got tired of the OS Advocacy thang after OS/2 got the beating it did; I am also now a Linux advocate when necessary but these days it's now "the right tool for the job" -- and yes, I do still pine for the WPS... sue me 8-])

The Tao is like a glob pattern: used but never used up. It is like the extern void: filled with infinite possibilities.
