This is the old straw man of Evolution is Random. This has been effectively trashed by better writers than I.

The author doesn't demonstrate much understanding of probability theory or random processes anyway. I suspect this was written by a well-meaning High School student in a last desperate attempt to hang onto his received religion. He's probably moved on since then.

  • Wow. Not only does that prove intelligent design, but it also proves God!

Wait, didn't Descartes do the same crap about 400 years ago? Of course, he was at least ingenuous, whereas our genius has years of understanding and observation of both social and physical evolution at his command.

Basically, what our genius friend does is ignore that life is created from some of the more common components in the universe and not completely random as he makes it. Neither does he account for the fact that life app

  • that a grand martian civilization on the brink of destruction after barely wining a war with the 5th planet* by shattering it into what is now the asteroid belt... could have seen a small primordial world full of the phrehistoric creatures we call 'dinosaurs' and they themselves could not survive on the surface of the earth, due to diseases the martians had no immunity to etc, so they wiped out the dinosuar species as it would be a threat to their plans, and then proceeded to 'design' the evolution of life
    • Asteroids have been observed with very similar compositions of soil and stratification as has been observed on Mars. I think it far more likely that Mars, having once been much larger, was hit by something that shattered it into the asteroid belt and what we today know as Mars. Think about it - Mars is losing what little atmosphere it has due to lack of gravity. There's been no observed volcanic activity on Mars, so how did it ever hold onto it's atmosphere this long? The surface has evidence of the act

Mastermind is a good example of how finding a random sequence through a non-random process is much more efficient than random guessing. If you're running into someone who thinks evolution is too slow, but they do understand that it's not random, mastermind is a good example to bring up.
