Journal Jerry Smith's Journal: again: no googling!! 3

Two this time: yes weekend started early for me :-) No multiple choice, and 'Celine Dion' is none of the answers.
1)Remember 'The Doors'? Where does the name come from?
2)The United States of America: where does the 'America'-bit come from?

Nothing to lose, nothing to win, just some satisfaction.

  • Door to the next world (I don't really know that) It has something to do with the Native American gentleman he saw passing away I think
and Americo what's his name (forgot the spelling) ,one of the discoverers of America (re-discoverers )
    • Crap I just remembered why the doors are called the Doors :( but I won't spoil others guesses and I made a typo on Amerigo
      • Mucho excellente! Amerigo was the discoverer that gave America it's name. Columbus denied the rest of his life that he did not find a short route to India, so America remained undiscovered. The discovery was credited to senior Amerigo by some major cartographers. It's also the name of the horse of Saint Nicolas, better known as Santa Claus.
Typos are tolerated by the way, they don't smudge the quality of a good answer.
