As reported on CNN, NEC and Toshiba have submetted a new DVD format for review that claims to be cheaper than the one introduced in February, 2002, by Sony and others. Unlike Sonys typical play, this format is not suggesting we go out and replace our old DVDs - it is actually backward compatible. Hurrah.
