Journal Argonne's Journal: "Hate to the Chief" is not working

Many in the "irrational hatred of Bush" wing of politics welcomed with pleasure the death and destruction caused by Hurrican Katrina as another opportunity to blame Bush for anything that goes wrong anywhere. However, a recent CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 609 adults taken September 5-6 shows that the Dean Screamers are failing to get mileage from this

"Blame Game -- 13% said George W. Bush is "most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane"; 18% said "federal agencies"; 25% said "state and local officials"; 38% said "no one is to blame"; 6% had no opinion. -- 29% said that "top officials in the federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired"; 63% said they should not; 8% had no opinion."

The public is recognizing George W. Bush's small role in a situation that had many major missteps by Democrats and Republicans at all levels of government. More significant than any matter involving Bush was the mayor of New Orleans refusing to use public transportation and school busses to evacuate people, and not bothering to fix 3 out of 4 water pumps under the city's control. The "irrational hatred of Bush" crowd will always leave these major mistakes off the list.
