So, I haven't kept up on this... Would it be possible to set up a home BPL (broadband over power line) network?

Can someone point in the direction of where I could at least learn more about it?

You can setup your own home network, and even share with your neighbors; I think transformers disrupt connectivity, but I have heard that neighboring houses can offen connect this way. Take a look at these items:

No pilot programs near here (20 miles east of Albuquerque), and I'm not holding my breath. But I was really looking to keep it inside my house anyway (and my wife's horse barn). The links are great, and thanks for the search tips. I was searching for "broadband over power line", "BPL", etc., and just wasn't coming up with what I wanted.

Heh howdy neighbor (I live in ABQ).

Wireless would be worth looking at. If you use wireless, you should certainly lock down your router (setup a WEP key, don't broadcast your SSID, etc). In spite of what the powerline guys say, wireless is faster (especially the g version), but even the powerline is probably fast enough for most uses. What kinds of things do you think you will be doing over it? (moving files, printing, streaming music/media?)

Hehe, small world. The answer to your final question is d) all of the above. I thought about wireless originally, but then thought this might be better. Now from what I'm reading, maybe not. So, back to wireless it is. Doesn't really make much difference to me!
