Well, here we go! I've recently accepted a position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as Visualization Task Leader and will be moving to eastern Tennessee on Saturday. This is going to be a big move for us, as I've been in California for 11 years now and my wife's been here for 9 years. On all fronts (professional, personal, etc.) this is a good move for us, but it's scary nonetheless.

  • I'd guess you can buy quite a house in TN if you're selling one in CA...
  • Have fun researching all sorts of stuff that you cannot tell us about! Tennessee isn't too bad a state. I never lived there, but I drove through it two times a year for a decade and I visited Chattanooga [chattanooga.gov] several times because I had friends of our family there. Good climate, has some hills and mountains, and isn't filled with New Yorkers like Florida.

    Just a warning, be prepared to be scoffed at because you come from California. Not for any political reasons, but because people from Cali sell their homes
