Journal blazin's Journal: Free Frosty Count: 1 16

I managed to score one measly frosty for free today. I am hoping to greatly increase that number over the next two days. I probably could have asked and received more, but I wasn't aware that the free size is appoximately the smallest amount of frosty you could serve that could conceivably be called a "serving", or a "bite" or a "large mouthful". Ok, it's not that tiny, but it was a 3-4-spoonfuls-and-you're-done type of thing. So ordering 5 or 6 at once would be close to getting a real size frosty.

I tried to jump on and play some Crimson Skies with Neenee3 and CurrentShunts, but they didn't take my game invite and shortly after I logged on they both ran away. I think they were afraid of my mad crazy dog-fight skillz. That or I messed something up. Getting people into a game in Crimson Skies is craptacular compared to how easy and smooth it is in Halo 2.

I watched the MTV xbox 360 thing. It was high on flash and really really low on any sort of useful info. Basically the "leaked" shots of the console are correct, it will be silver and can stand vertically, and the controllers are white and wireless. That's about it. They showed more of Wilmer's face than they did of the game they were playing and they made more of a big deal about how you can "skin" the xbox by getting a new faceplate then they did talking about what was inside the xbox. In fact, they didn't mention what type of disc it reads, how much memory, how fast are the processor(s), or anything. I guess the majority of people picking it up don't really care about that though. I am psyched that every (or maybe nearly every) game will support HDTV in some way. I've been hoping the xbox would support HD but just a few games do. The 733 mhz processor isn't beefy enough to push as many pixels as it needs to for HD. The rumored 3 3.2Ghz processors in the 360 should do the trick though.

  • I haven't had a frosty in years. I may have to take a trip to Wendy's today. :^)
    • I plan on getting at least one today and Sunday. Maybe more if I can swing it, but there's probably a limit to this too. 30 frosties in a day seems like a lot even if they are realy small.
      • Are you purchasing anything with your Frosties? Or just asking for the Frosty? I feel kinda bad just asking for the free frosty...I have that whole guilt thing going on. ;-)

        • Just asking for the free frosty. They seemed very happy to give it to me and actually a little disappointed that I only wanted one. Maybe I'll try for two on my next trip.
  • Hey, I just got the Crimson Skies game yesterday and I am still trying to figure out how to play it. I saw the game invite when CS and I were finishing up our game. So, I did try to accept your invite after that one, but you may have already started another one because I couldn't join..or I may have been doing something wrong. Of course, you are right, the Crimson Skies live interface is not as smooth and as intuitive as Halo2. I accidentally started Hosting a game for a bunch of people I didn't know and tr
    • I wasn't sure if it would let you join once a game was going or not like you can in Halo 2. Once I started the game to invite you and CurrentShunts I got a bunch of people I didn't know joining. We waited a long time but decided to go ahead and play. Have you played the single player portion of Crimson Skies? It was fun and a decent story.

Also, make sure you download all the extra planes and maps if you haven't. There were several people in the game who hadn't and it won't let the game stat if someone
      • I downloaded all of the planes and maps last night when I first logged into the online game. And I did start the single player portion of it this morning. However, I've realized that it's very fortunate for the general population that I never became a pilot. :-)

I have trouble flying the plane in a straight line....and I keep getting turned upside down. I've never suffered from motion sickness before, but this game definitely makes me a little dizzy.

        • I had that problem a little when I was playing on the bigger TV upstairs but last night was on the 19" tv and I didn't have any trouble. I was surprised by how quickly I was able to pick up the controls again. I'm not saying I did well. The score was 8-7-3-1-1-1. I was one of the 1s. The interface for getting friends in there is horribly bad though. I guess that's what I get for playing Halo 2 for awhile and not playing CS for about a year online.
  • Have you heard anything about backward compatibility? I'm just hoping the existing xbox games will play on the new xbox 360. I would think that they would have to...but I haven't been able to confirm this.
    • Backward compatibility is one thing I have heard nothing about. I really hope they are since I like being able to do system link games at home where no one needs to bring over another xbox. The processors are completely different but they are also a lot more powerful, so I suppose they could emulate the original xbox. I like that the controllers are wireless and can be charge by plugging them into something on the base unit.

It would also be cool if xbox 360 was blu-ray or HDVD compatible. I've heard DV
    • they've been avoiding the issue. my guess is that they're working on it, but don't want to promise what they can't deliver. i hear the trouble is that the original xbox games often use heavily nvidia specific extensions, but the xbox 360 has an ATI graphics core. if they can't come up with a way to translate it in real time, they won't be able to promise backwards compatability. in theory it's possible, but it's proving difficult enough that they haven't promised anything yet.

      • According to a /. article (or at least I just saw it in the games.slashdot rss feed, they (Microsoft) will not comment on backward compatibility until Monday at E3. However, there are reports of an Xbox 1 zone in the new xbox live interface and reports of Halo 2 maps being available for download. Also something about Fable. I really hope it is backward compatible. Even if they relied a lot on NVidia stuff, the new box has so much more power than the old, it should not be too much trouble to emulate.

        • i agree it should be possible between the increased power and the programmable nature of modern shaders. only two days to find out for sure i guess.

yeah, sorry about that. i'm a dork. i pretty much only use live to play with this one real life friend who lives in portland. his xbox broke and he had trouble getting a replacement, then he went to the philippines for a month. so i haven't been on live at all the past several months. i'm going to go correct that right now, even if it's just to accept you
          • No big deal. I see you're in the dashboard right now anyway. If you've got Halo 2, add Neenee3, A Lunatic View, Kai Technolust, MC Hampster and Redhunter. They all play occasionally and it is a lot of fun.
            • don't have halo 2. i haven't found any console shooters that match the PC shooter experience for me. only xbox live games i have are crimson skies, mortal kombat: deception, and jedi academy.
