That's a lot of head to head benchmarks where the AMD processor "came up short" only because it was sandbagged.

C++, on the other hand, incorporates features all over the place, without any cohesion, not minding if they contradict each other or cause over complication.
This is simply not true.
There were a few historic rush jobs in C++'s past (against their own cultural norms):
* the belated STL
* namespaces
* extern templates
That all dates back to C++98, which in a desperate sprint at the end of a long marathon broke a number of its own standardization rules.
The STL was a good call, extern templates were pretty much unimplementable (and died a fairly prompt death), and while the namespace design is a bit ugly, it must serve well enough, because it hasn't remained a notable pain point.
Much of what generates the lack of cohesion in C++ is the refusal to add features until there's proven code on the ground. Eventual cohesion is a core value of the standards committee. And so you constantly get another 1/4 of a feature, until next time.
One of the worst features of C++, as it turns out, is the novel declaration syntax of C, now mostly described as a failed experiment. It didn't punish C too badly, because C has never much wanted to extend its own syntax, but it proved to be a nightmare on wheels for C++, which wanted to greatly extend the syntax to handle higher levels of abstraction, while also remaining backward compatible.
Considering that there's now 35 years of additional complication since C++85, the portability distance between C and the C-like subset of C++ remains remarkably small.
So it turns out that you can have your cake and eat it too (low-level and high-level in the same language), but the 35 candles have a conspicuous resemblance to warts. If you truly want to have your cake and to eat it to, C++ remains pretty much the only game in town.
[*] Warts are far less contagious when taken orally than most people suspect; it's mostly just a grossness reflex.

Massive databases aren't networked because the operators suddenly got a case of FOMO and felt that the data needed to be online and participating in a social media bubble somewhere.
A cloud service without internet, is worthless shit. Doesn't matter if it's powered on and in the most secure data center on the planet. The same can be said for many systems that need to communicate with each other. Security may be a "bolted on" afterthought, but it still exists for a reason. I agree that if we can't learn to mitigate the risks properly and secure systems well enough they need to be taken offline, but we also need to understand that's not always a feasible answer no matter how sensitive the data is.
