+ - Beam circulation and splashes: success at CERN LHC

Submitted by
zevans
zevans writes "On Friday night beams were successfully injected and circulated thousands of circuits clockwise and anti-, and "RF synchronisation established" meaning that further acceleration would be possible. Furthermore beam splash events have been observed at the ATLAS, ALICE (possibly), CMS, and LHCb detectors. @CERN tweeted an excellent commentary throughout. CERN have made more progress this weekend than in the 9 days of operation last year. Your correspondent can confirm that all the associated memes were alive and well on the #lhc timeline.

The team are now stress-testing various control systems with at least one beam running, with some expectation of collisions on Dec 2nd/3rd."
