VB6 dead? My VB6 apps, with my updates to support registry and file virtualization, run flawlessly under Windows 8. Silverlight dead? Silverlight 5 was only released a few months ago, and supports out-of-browser AND in-browser COM automation. Good luck approaching that functionality with any other technology. Silverlight powers WP7 and some pretty awesome websites. If I wanted to start a new website that was more impressive than anything, was a mature technology with lots of examples and free open source libs available, and ran on PCs and Macs (99% of the market?), I'd use it in a heartbeat. Deserted developers? MY ASS. Microsoft supports developers and legacy code better than any technology company. Period.

Good point. Also, if one really does go through the reviews on Amazon, one can see they are genuine; people who have reviewed hundreds of other products over many years, often providing negative reviews. I don't think the Amazon system is being rigged here or in riggable in general like that. I checked them out myself last week. The Clearview display on the Lumia 900 is the absolute best I have ever seen. I never thought Samsung AMOLEDs could be beat in quality. Unfortunately, I'm under contract for another month... and kind of think the Windows 8 phones coming out later in the year might be even a bigger deal...

Amen brother. More like Nokia hardware would run slower, more laggy and have to be rebooted frequently with Android on it. BTW: WP7 devices now have all top 5 spots for devices on Amazon rated by customer satisfaction I know I posted this already. It beared repeating, and you comment beared elevation.

Developers expressed fears Microsoft might let their investment in skills 'die on the vine' as Redmond finally embraces open standards. As high-definition graphics become more and more entrenched in this generation of game consoles, Nintendo has had to deal with constant speculation about a new version of the Wii that would increase its capabilities. Today, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime bluntly denied that a hardware revision was imminent, saying, "We are confident the Wii home entertainment console has a very long life in front of it." He added, "In terms of what the future holds, we've gone on record to say that the next step for Nintendo in home consoles will not be to simply make it HD, but to add more and more capability, and we'll do that when we've totally tapped out all of the experiences for the existing Wii. And we're nowhere near doing that yet."

Psystar Activation Servers Down? 245

An anonymous reader writes "I purchased Rebel EFI in support of Psystar's crusade back in October. Just 3 short months later, I have no support. I found this out when I upgraded my hard drive and installed Snow Leopard using Rebel EFI. The program can no longer 'phone home' to activate or download/install drivers. This is a direct contradiction to Psystar's promise posted on their website: 'Psystar will continue to support all of its existing customers of hardware and software through this transitional period. Warranties on hardware will continue to be honored as long the customer has a valid warranty. Rebel EFI support for existing customers, as always, will remain exclusively available through email and the built-in ticket interface.' Has anyone else run into this issue? It has been 9 days with no response from Psystar by e-mail or phone."

EA Flip-Flops On Battlefield: Heroes Pricing, Fans Angry 221

An anonymous reader writes "Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica is reporting that EA/DICE has substantially changed the game model of Battlefield: Heroes, increasing the cost of weapons in Valor Points (the in-game currency that you earn by playing) to levels that even hardcore players cannot afford, and making them available in BattleFunds (the in-game currency that you buy with real money). Other consumables in the game, such as bandages to heal the players, suffered the same fate, turning the game into a subscription or pay-to-play model if players want to remain competitive. This goes against the creators' earlier stated objectives of not providing combat advantage to paying customers. Ben Cousins, from EA/DICE, argued, 'We also frankly wanted to make buying Battlefunds more appealing. We have wages to pay here in the Heroes team and in order to keep a team large enough to make new free content like maps and other game features we need to increase the amount of BF that people buy. Battlefield Heroes is a business at the end of the day and for a company like EA who recently laid off 16% of their workforce, we need to keep an eye on the accounts and make sure we are doing our bit for the company.' The official forums discussion thread is full of angry responses from upset users, who feel this change is a betrayal of the original stated objectives of the game."
