Final: Packers 27, Cowboys 37

First, congradulations to the Cowboys on their win, and clinching a playoff division.

The reasons the Packers lost:

  • No QB protection on the O-line. Favre and Rogers were under pressure all night long.

  • A porous O-line means the QB has to get rid of the ball quick. Yet Favre insisted on throwing the ball deep, which requires the QB to hold the ball while his receiver(s) run their routes and get free. This is the price of having Favre as your QB -- for every "how did he do that?!" play, you get a "why did he do that?!" play. It's probably not a coincidence he got injured throwing a pass on a play he should have either taken a sack or thrown the ball away.

  • Special teams return coverage. The Cowboys offense doesn't need short fields to score points, but they kept getting it anyway.

  • Injuries on defense -- with KGB and Woodson out, Romo wasn't getting pressured, and T.O. was getting open, with predictable results. Even so, the Packers could have won if the defense could've gotten just one more stop. Hopefully everybody's healthy when it's time to make the playoff run.

    • [Favre] trying to go deep is dumb

Yeah. I really have no good explanation for why he kept trying to throw deep -- it clearly wasn't working. But he clearly has a fondness for the "home run" play. Sometimes it works (like in Denver), and sometimes it doe
