This will impact users who want to dual boot other distributions — Linux included. Garrett, a Red Hat employee who works on the Fedora distro, has a solution for the Fedora Linux distro. My question is how the the UEFI issue might effect a users ability to use QEMU [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QEMU] and/or Oracle VirtualBox. Garrett says UEFI will "be moving to requiring signed kernel modules and locking down certain aspects of kernel functionality. The most obvious example is that it won't be possible to access PCI regions directly from userspace, which means all graphics cards will need kernel drivers.".

Does this "signing" mean Windws 8 will not allow any type of vitalization? Are we now heading into an era where software , again, is so limited that an abacus now looks hi-tech."

The application, "Trusteer Rapport", is a security addon which is to make my banking safer. Safer for whomn? Accoring to the Trusteer website, the "Trusteer works with leading banks to prevent criminals from taking money from your accounts".

Really, it seems that the application is a keylogger (http://goo.gl/1K5py) at best or at worst, it's a security nightmare which does not work and can be bypassed by malware (http://goo.gl/RWcfJ)(http://goo.gl/FAMwz).

Does anyone know if this software REALLY works, or, does it "phone home" with a users private information like the ATT CarrierIQ phone software (http://goo.gl/Sx72Q)."

Not true, they claim. Instead, the early inhabitants of Hollywood were independent filmmakers who were censored by a copyright monopoly. They were freedom fighters who saw no other option than to infringe patents for the sake of creativity."

Sparrowvsrevolution writes "A DC appeals court has ruled that the National Security Agency doesn’t need to either confirm or deny its secret relationship with Google in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and follow-up lawsuit filed by the Electronic Privacy Information Center. The NSA cited a FOIA exemption that covers any documents whose exposure might hinder the NSA’s national security mission, and responded to EPIC with a "no comment." Beyond merely rejecting the FOIA request, the court has agreed with the NSA that it has the right to simply not respond to the request, as even a rejection of the request might reveal details of a suspected relationship with Google that it has sought to keep secret.

Google was reported to have partnered with the NSA to bolster its defenses against hackers after its breach by Chinese cyberspies in early 2010. But to the dismay of privacy advocates who fear the NSA's surveillance measures coupled with Google's trove of data, the company has never explained the details of that partnership."

sl4shd0rk writes "Apparently the USPS is enacting a ban on the international shipment of all devices containing Litihium Ion batteries. The ban is expected to lift in January of 2013. Seems like this should drive more business away from the already floundering USPS financal situation. Although TFA focuses on the shipment of items _out_ of the US, I would surmise the same ban will apply to purchasing these items on Ebay from overseas sources."

Gunkerty Jeb writes "Confidential data, including bank account and Social Security numbers for some 350,000 University of North Carolina-Charlotte students, staff and faculty, were accidentally exposed — some for almost 15 years — due to a system misconfiguration and incorrect access settings that made electronic data publicly available.

The school on Wednesday released a statement on an investigation it launched in February after staff discovered the data breach. The investigation revealed two separate incidents exposed data such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers and financial account information provided during university transactions."

Have an electrician install a whole house surge device at the main power panel. Remember, these protection devices are designed to fail after a BAD hit. Get a surge device with external status display.

I installed mine, I do not recommend you install this as you need to pull your meter and most (all) power companies don't like this. Especially, when amateurs are doing the work. Oh well.
