From the fact that he's completely illiterate about computers automatically implies he already has Norton installed. That AND the fact he's on AOL.

It seems OP is pretty savvy, why not register a domain name for him and set up an SMTP account you can remotely administer. It doesn't mean he'll never have his email hacked, but he'd be less of a target.

New submitter jest3r writes "On Tuesday the EFF filed a brief proposing a process for the Court in the Megaupload case to hold the government accountable for the actions it took (and failed to take) when it shut down Megaupload's service and denied third parties access to their property. Many businesses used Megaupload's cloud service to store and share files not related to piracy. The government is calling for a long, drawn-out process that would require individuals or small companies to travel to courts far away and engage in multiple hearings just to get their own property back. Additionally, the government's argument that you lose all your property rights by storing your data on the cloud could apply to Amazon's S3 or Google Apps or Apple iCloud services as well (see page 4 of their filing)."

Ralph McQuarrie, the artist who created concept designs for the first Star Wars trilogy, the original Battlestar Galactica television show, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and other science fiction classics, has passed away at age 82. He set our minds on fire and made so many of us fall in love with science fiction. He'll be missed."

I've found there is a pattern for MS operating systems:
95 = unstable
98 = excellent
ME = better left forgotten
XP = still kicking and doing ok
Vista = poorly received
7 = best yet

That's my opinion based on being in the industry and speaking with other computer techs over the past 15 years or so. So with the bad/good/bad/good/bad/good pattern, I'm staying clear of 8 and waiting for 9 ;)

I've always jokingly called apple the "Cult of Macintology", but now it's even more obvious. The cult of $cientology sue people when they don't like what they're saying, Apple also take action (by the sole means they can) by killing off criticism.

Apple haven't made a decent product in years, they can hardly be called innovators, they're just a marketing monster. And when someone does something vaguely distasteful to them, they sue them. Maybe Apple is just a branch of the Cult of $cientology.

The fact that Apple have such market share is proof that society is slowly getting dumber and dumber.

Among other capabilities, cars communicate with each other and with 'smart traffic signals' to smooth the flow of traffic and avoid accidents, or with 'smart traffic signs' to avoid dangerous driving conditions. The CVIS project is in the midst of undergoing field trials in Europe, and Audi has recently deployed 15 test vehicles in a similar project. The ambitious vision of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) includes goals such as reduced traffic congestion and fuel consumption, enhanced safety, and improved driver and passenger comfort. Ultimately, the developers envision a sort of Automotive Internet."
