I've tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera.

I really do think that the plugin needs OpenGL - and if it does that precludes Firefox on my machine. Which isn't the end of the world.

I get frustrated with my mobile stuff too - but the convenience if you can get it going is so nice. I really didn't want to get into the tablet world, but now that I've had one for a while I've found that I use it all the time. When I'm at home I use it to check email, browse the web, play games, etc. If I need to do any actual work I move to my Fedora machine in the office. But when I'm just kicking around in my off time it is all the tablet now.

At work I bring it to meetings and use it when I speak, do trainings, etc. It frees me up from being stuck by my laptop that is running the slides.

I've only done email two ways on android. Exchange and gmail. Gmail works great on Android. For Exchange I needed to buy a commercial app to get it to work well. I'm not surprised imap was a challenge. I've never created a google account on a device either. I'm betting that you are doing stuff that a lot of people don't do enough for it to really show up on google's radar. And while I love a lot of their products their lack of responsiveness to issues is something I really hate.

They don't really support their stuff at all. And finding answers is incredible difficult sometimes - especially when you are doing something 'different'. Right now the Hangouts functionality of g+ crashes KDE on my Fedora machine. I don't know why and haven't been able to find any clues. I can only guess it might be graphics driver related? Maybe? There's no way I know of to get help from Google or submit a bug report.

So it's a mixed bag. That said, I'm surprised at how worthwhile I've found my tablet to be.

If I were buying a phone right now it would be a Nexus 4. But the updates are a lot less of a big deal to me compared to just controlling my own hardware.

I really don't want to mess with iPhones. I watch the guys in my office scramble to re-jailbreak theirs each time they update. And I've not bought into any of their eco-system. I've thrown my lot in with google for the most part.

Not that I disagree with you about the Android problems. Samsung and T-Mobile in the US are horrific with updates (not sure just where the blame is with those 2). Though I've found the hardware and software on both Galaxy phones held up for quite a while. I didn't feel like I was really lacking without the updates. Moving from 4.1 to 4.2 with this phone isn't really a huge change. I wouldn't have bothered but I know this summer I'll need to be able to use it as a hot spot.

I'd love a phone running linux with KDE on top. That would make my day - but I'm not holding my breath.

Regardless of hardware/software - I dread the day I have to move back to the U.S. I was in a discussion with some other Americans this week-end and they were asking me about the state of technology in Hungary. Apparently they don't pay attention because they seemed surprised when I told them that Europe in general has much stronger broadband and mobile than the U.S. And that definitely include Hungary. I get so much more here for a lot less money.

I've been in hotter places myself - but I don't gotta like it.

It was chilly in Istanbul when I stopped there on my way home yesterday. I've always thought of Turkey as hotter too.
