Didn't like it. Too violent, too dark, too meaningless. Should have seen wall-e instead.

  • Go see it digitally if it is available in your area :-) So far I have seen it three times in the theater (hey, I couldn't get everyone to go see it at the same time, so sue me), and I plan on buying the dvd when it comes out.

  • Too violent, too dark, too meaningless. ...you didn't see Wall*e? ;)

    • There is no way wall-e could be that depressing. I didn't sleep well last night because it jacked up my mind.

      • I didn't sleep well last night because it jacked up my mind.

Sounds like a good movie, then.

And you're right, Wall*e isn't all that violent.

  • It was more psychological thriller than action (Naqamel nailed that one), so I could understand your disappointment since you are a graphic novel fan. I think it did raise the moral theme of the penalty paid by The Good Guy© for following the rules when The Bad Guy© has no such compuctions. Of course I'm also reading Winston Churchill's History of WWII, and in The Gathering Storm one of the things he discusses is neutrality. The list of countries overwhelmed by Germany is pretty expansive. Chu
    • I didn't care for the whole idea that you must become what you strive against. I don't buy into the duality of good and evil. I don't accept that the truth should be hidden to 'help' others.

On the movie side of things - yes - I was disappointed with the action. The fights were too up close and dark to appreciate the style. There were some nice shots but they were far and few between. Since I didn't care for the story and the ideas presented, it didn't leave me much to appreciate.

      • I was actually happier with the fights in this movie than I was with Batman Begins. Those fights were impossible to follow. These were merely difficult.
I'm not sure what you meant 'I don't buy into the duality of good and evil.' This movie didn't show good and evil as a duality at all, it showed a spectrum. Pre-Two Face Dent was intended to show one extreme (though even then, not the actual extreme... that would be Superman) and The Joker showed off the other extreme. Mobsters, cops, vigilantes and Bat

        • Joker didn't set up the bombs - remember - Joker has minions. Minions set up us the bomb.

          Main screen turn on!

How are you gentlemen. All your base are belong to us. You have no chance to survive make your time.
      • I don't know that it is that good must become evil in order to win so much as that Good has a price, too. Nothing is free, including being good. Call it the understanding of unintentional consequences. Especially the Bat-Wanna-Bes. I agree that the Truth should be told, but I don't know that Batman's lies won't have unintended consequences in the all but sure sequel(s).
    • MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT

Couple of comments on places I thought the plot / storyline was brilliant:

Batman taking the rap for Two-Face.

Sal Maroni, before Batman dropped him off the ledge, was not afraid of Batman, and to Batman, having the criminals fear him is part of the mystique.

Furthermore, by having Batman take the rap, there's always a question of if it was the real deal or an impostor. Criminals in the Nolan Gotham City now can't be sure, and the element of fear is established.

      The Prisoner's D
