Thanks so much for the responses on my previous journal entry. I'm all set and next time I fly somewhere I'll have a lot more entertainment options. Picked up "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" tonight - that would go nicely on a flight.

  • How big is the screen on your player. I have a late-model iPod nano, and the screen actually works quite well for movies. I have not tried it with a large variety of them, but I currently have The Princess Bride in progress.
    • It's the same size as the 3rd gen nano - 320 x 240. I have watched a couple episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender - and those looked great. When I watched the new Transformers movie, it wasn't as good. I have a feeling that films without large scenes and lots of special effects will be better. My first conversion from one of my dvds is Stand By Me - which I think will be perfect.

I would think that Princess Bride should be pretty good as well. In fact, I'll have to dig that out of the drawer
  • I just (as in 45min ago) purchased a HD digital TV tuner card so I will be able to record and watch those shows that I miss at night when spending time with the wife, and conversion software is up there on my list of stuff to do - so now I don't have to look.

The G, B & U is Ok but "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is one of my all time favourite westerns. yes I have Unforgiven also.

I also have a Kurosawa box set - Yojombo, Hidden Castle and The Seven samurai which needs some serious watching. But that is what t
    • I like all the Clint Eastwood westerns. They had GB&U as well as Hang 'Em High in a bin of $5 movies at the store today. I used restraint and just grabbed one.

I'm canceling our cable this week - but we figure for less than what we were paying for that each month- we can get more entertainment purchasing dvds every so often. There are also a growing number of options for viewing shows via the internet - so we'll have that too.

As you mention - there usually isn't too much on t.v. We go
      • We can't get cable where we are - useless telco (but they will sell us satellite pay tv - no thanks).

This conversation reminded me - I have Two Mules For Sister Sara and Cat Ballou to watch [as well as a quite a few others]. I had the dvd list open to make sure it is up to date [for insurance].

I used to watch them on the laptop - but that eblonged to previous job and when they closed they wouldn't let us keep em - we even offered to pay for them.

Ah, but will it get out tobacco juice stains?
  • "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" tonight - that would go nicely on a flight.

Just be sure to crank the "Aaaayeeeahhhyeeeyahh... waaah waaah waaah" parts! Esp. if it's a night flight.

(From your previous JE:) but the audio was completely out of sync with the video

If you find a fix, please tell Time Warner Cable about it -- I'm getting really sick of watching English-language shows that look like they're dubbed. Maybe also ask them how they're coming along fixing sporadic pixelized artifacting, and whole blocks
