As some of you may know - the NFL played a game in England last week. It was a regular season game that counted - not just an exhibition. Apparently an attempt to gain an audience in Europe. But the players were allowed to do interviews, and it forces one to wonder if more damage was done than good. Here's a quote from one of those interviews as it appeared on the BBC web site.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries. I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name." Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder ahead of the clash with the New York Giants at Wembley. Americans - gotta love 'em.

Nice. I don't know what nothing is. That had to go over well.

  • Everyone knows you people stink at geography (present company excluded of course). This guy just happens to be among the proud ignorant, most people pretend they know more than they do.
    • I once heard a Canadian joke that wars are God's way of teaching Americans geography. Unfortunately, I think he was right.

This goes to show that one gets that for which one pays. Professional football players are paid to be big, strong, and fast, not well-read or well-mannered.
  • Wow. This guy *is* ignorant. But as the other commenter said, he's at least out about it.
    • What's upsetting is that he has a college degree. It shows the state of athletics in college in our country. Universities will give diploma's to athletes that don't deserve them...
      • I'm not sure that he has a degree. According to his Wikipedia entry, he only spent two years at the University of Florida. There's a gap after his high school career, though, so it's possible that he did junior college and did finish his degree. His attitude does not suggest an aggressive pursuit of learning, however.

I seem to recall reading not too long ago (in TMQ, perhaps), that Notre Dame graduates 95% of its football players, and Nebraska 88%, while the citation for an SEC school (not sure if it was
  • Was black, from London. So are quite a few blokes i know.

Stunningly dumb. I guess they need better helmets.
