Peach Movie Project Releases "Big Buck Bunny&# 2008-05-31 13:45 starseeker

Submitted by starseeker on Saturday May 31, @01:45PM
starseeker writes "The Blender Foundation's second open movie project released their finished product to the word on May 30th: Big Buck Bunny. Unlike the Orange project's Elephant's Dream short film, this effort's creative concept was "furry and funny." Like the previous effort, all production files are also freely available under a Creative Commons Attribution license.

Downloads and torrents can be had here. To help support future efforts you can still order the DVD here."

Stix Scientific Fonts Reach Beta Release 2007-11-01 18:50 starseeker

Submitted by starseeker on Thursday November 01 2007, @06:50PM
At long last, the STIX project has posted a Beta release of their scientific fonts. The mission of the STIX project has been the "preparation of a comprehensive set of fonts that serve the scientific and engineering community in the process from manuscript creation through final publication, both in electronic and print formats." The result is a font set containing thousands of characters, and hopefully a font set that will become a staple for scientific publishing. Among other uses, it has long been hoped that this would make the wide scale use of MathML in browsers possible. Despite rather long delays the project has persisted and is now showing concrete results. For those interested in the license, it can be found here. (Note to those downloading — TeX support is not yet ready. Also, the zip file will put all the files in the same directory as the zip file itself, so you might want to open it in its own directory.)

STIX Fonts Beta Released[->] 2007-10-31 16:51 Chris Chiasson

Submitted by Chris Chiasson on Wednesday October 31 2007, @04:51PM
Chris Chiasson writes "After more than 10 years in the making, the STIX fonts beta from the STI Pub companies has been released today. After the release of the final version of these fonts, MathML authors will no longer have to rely on users downloading non-free fonts. From the website:

The STI Pub Group is delighted to announce the beta test release of the STIX Fonts in OpenType format. This release includes every glyph that is planned for the final, production release which we hope will follow before the end of the year. The beta test period will run from 1 November through 15 December. Regrettably, this beta test will not include TeX support. We expect the TeX package to be ready for beta test near the end of this year.
