+ - Six months without Adobe Flash, and I feel fine->

Submitted by

hessian writes "As documented on /., six months ago I de-installed the Adobe FlashTM player on all my browsers.

This provoked some shock and incredulity from others. After all, Flash has been an essential content interpreter for over a decade. It filled the gap between an underdeveloped JavaScript and the need for media content like animation, video and so on."

Journal: Curious Accident

Journal by skoval

One girl and three guys.
First (let's call him Chandler) once was secretly in love with the girl. Second (e.g. Ross) almost in love right now. And the third (e.g. Joey) is a newcomer.
After supper Ross has to leave the company. The girl gets strongly attracted to Joey after he says few compliments when she felt rather miserable. Probably due to alcohol, lack of sex and male attention, approaching thirtieth anniversary or another unknown reason, we'll never know.
Ross gets very upset

+ - Introversion And Solitude Increase Productivity-> 1

bonch (38532) writes "Author Susan Cain argues that modern society's focus on charisma and group brainstorming has harmed creativity and productivity by removing the quiet, creative process. 'Research strongly suggests that people are more creative when they enjoy privacy and freedom from interruption. And the most spectacularly creative people in many fields are often introverted, according to studies by the psychologists Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Gregory Feist. They’re extroverted enough to exchange and advance ideas, but see themselves as independent and individualistic. They’re not joiners by nature.'"

+ - Securing Android for the Enterprise->

Orome1 (1901578) writes "While many companies use IPsec for secure remote access to their networks, no integrated IPsec VPN client is available on Android. Apple has already fixed this shortcoming in iOS, in part, because it wanted make the iPhone attractive for businesses. The Android operating system doesn’t just lack an integrated IPsec VPN client, it also makes installing and configuring third-party VPN software quite complicated. IPsec VPN clients have to be integrated into the kernel of each device, and the client software has to be installed specifically for a memory area. This means that the firmware of each Android smartphone or tablet has to be modified accordingly. Until a “real” IPsec VPN client is available, Android users can use their devices’ integrated VPN clients based on PPTP or L2TP, which is deployed over IPsec. A “real” IPsec VPN connection, however, is more secure because it encrypts data prior to authentication."

Kilrah_il writes with news that Google has selected winners for Project 10^100, a contest to find the best ideas to change the world. Among the winners is the Khan Academy, which we've discussed previously. Google is "providing $2 million to support the creation of more courses and to enable the Khan Academy to translate their core library into the world’s most widely spoken languages." The other winning projects are: FIRST, an organization fostering math and science education through team competition; Public.Resource.Org, a government transparency effort focused on online access to public documents; Shweeb, a silly-looking method of human-powered urban transit; and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, a center aimed at promoting graduate-level math and science education in Africa.

Advertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.
