Journal: One year since XP OEL. 6

Journal by jawtheshark
Do you realize that XP was EOLed exactly one year ago?
I know many XP machines still chugging around peacefully without problems: No XPcalypse happened. This entirely fits my predictions.

XP was a (had become) a mature operating system. I abhor the fetish of "newer is better" that reigns in our industry.

Journal: Reminiscence XP 6

Journal by jawtheshark
As I said in my previous journal entry, I'd install Windows XP Home (OEM) in a Virtual Machine today in order to commemorate the death of XP. I documented it with screenshots. Yes, I know, it's Facebook album, but it's public. It was the quickest way to get something online.
From VM creation and installation from SP3 OEM ISO to fully patched in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Not all that shabby.
It also indicates that XP will most likely die totally when they turn off the activation servers. I don't think they'll hand out the promised "no activation patch", ever. (Well, I always heard they'd promised such a thing, it might simply be legend.)

Journal: Turning Further AI Mind Development Over to the Coding Masses

Journal by Mentifex

...

In 2012 and 2013, Mentifex open-source artificial intelligence has branched out from the English language { MindForth } program into the German-language { Wotan AI } and the Russian-language { Dushka AI }.

The free, open-source AI programs have become able to engage in automated reasoning with { InFerence }.

What the AI Mind programs lack is physical embodiment in robots with sensory inputs and motor activator outputs. Therefore AI enthusiasts in the English-speaking world or in the German-speaking world or in the Russian-speaking world are welcome to install the AI Minds in their own autonomous humanoid robots.
