If your ISP doesn't have data caps, look at Backblaze ( http://www.backblaze.com/ ). $5 / month for unlimited storage for one computer. Only available for Mac and Windows, but I'm sure a virtual instance of Windows if you're using a Linux box would work... These are the folks that opensourced their hardware design for their storage "pods." http://blog.backblaze.com/2011...

mdsolar writes "Atomic Divorce is the new name for the crushing of the nuclear family in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. ""People are living with constant low-level anxiety. They don't have the emotional strength to mend their relationships when cracks appear," [...] Couples are being torn apart over such issues as whether to stay in the area or leave, what to believe about the dangers of radiation, whether it is safe to get pregnant and the best methods to protect children. "When people disagree over such sensitive matters, there's often no middle way,"" According to Noriko Kubota, a professor of clinical psychology at Iwaki Meisei University."

+ - Chimp found plotting against zoo guests 1

rjshirts (567179) writes "In further proof that Planet of the Apes is coming to pass, researchers in Stockholm, Sweden have definitive proof that primates can plan ahead.
From the article: "Santino the chimpanzee's anti-social behavior stunned both visitors and keepers at the Furuvik Zoo but fascinated researchers because it was so carefully prepared.
According to a report in the journal Current Biology, the 31-year-old alpha male started building his weapons cache in the morning before the zoo opened, collecting rocks and knocking out disks from concrete boulders inside his enclosure. He waited until around midday before he unleashed a "hailstorm" of rocks against visitors, the study said."
I think this explains a lot of Cowboy Neal's behavior......."

Researchers Warn of Possible BitTorrent Meltdown 294

Posted by kdawson
from the domino-effect dept.
secmartin writes "Researchers at Delft University warn that large parts of the BitTorrent network might collapse if The Pirate Bay is forced to shut down. A large part of the available torrents use The Pirate Bay as tracker, and other available trackers will probably be overloaded if all traffic is shifted there. TPB is currently using eight servers for their trackers. According to the researchers, even trackerless torrents using the DHT protocol will face problems: 'One bug in a DHT sorting routine ensures that it can only "stumble upon success", meaning torrent downloads will not start in seconds or minutes if Pirate Bay goes down in flames.'"
