Just spotted this.

Microsoft Terminating employee's to save on severance and press release "layoff" ... CSS is evaluating Team Mgr's that have been in their level for 30 months to evaluate how to trim Team Mgr. Human Resources is pulling reports to see anyone who has "violated policies" this will assist in a terminations rather than a lay off and severance.

I can't vouch for the veracity of the claim but it's about what you can expect from any Fortune 100 company these days and M$ escpially.

Really but it won't help. The company has fired people for mentioning M$ Mac use in their personal blogs and Ballmer said he "brainwashed" his his kids away from Google and iPod. The company is serious about using their own products to the point of religious self destruction. The whole company is built on mind share for something that can be completely replaced with something better in five minutes. The sad fact for them is that every normal company is turning to free software for price and performance reasons.

An anonymous reader writes "Phoronix has a new article out on Wayland: A New X Server For Linux. One of Red Hat's engineers has started writing a new X11 server around today's needs and to eliminate the cruft that has been in this critical piece of free software for more than a decade. This new server is called Wayland and it is designed with newer hardware features like kernel mode-setting and a kernel memory manager for graphics. Wayland is also dramatically simpler to target for in development. A compositing manager is embedded into the Wayland server and ensures 'every frame is perfect' according to the project's leader."

MICROSOFT will charge the Australian Aged Care Industry IT Council $70 million over the next 18 months as it forces users to pay full commercial rates for previously discounted software. Is this M$'s way to make up for falling traditional software sales?

Aged care providers are shocked by Microsoft's decision to revoke their not-for-profit status, which gave them access to its products at a heavily discounted rate.

A Microsoft spokesman said a recent review had uncovered "a number of ineligible entities, including a range of commercial organisations, that were using Academic Volume Licensing programs" under the belief they qualified.

At least three projects were put on hold by Aged Care. Never trust important business to a software license that may be revoked at any time."
