LHC News: decission to run at 3.5 TeV beam energy

Submitted by

qrash writes "A new CERN press release yesterday states that the LHC will run at 3.5 TeV per beam (7 TeV center of mass energy). They state that they "have selected 3.5 TeV because it allows the LHC operators to gain experience of running the machine safely while opening up a new discovery region for the experiments". However, they also mention that they "will take the energy up towards 5 TeV per beam" as they gain more experience. Net Neutrality at its Best-> 1

MGParisi writes "Hughesnet, who is famous for their complete failure to comply to Net Neutrality standards, has out done itself once again. Hughesnet has limited access to the social network for quilters http://www.allourquilts.com/providing its users with extremely slow load times (with pings on the trace route exceeding 700ms) or 501 errors.
The Admin of AllOurQuilts.com MGParisi states: "A few of my customers could not connect to my website. After weeks of researching the problem the people at MidPhase and Myself, limited these errors to Hughesnet. When I contacted the Technical Support 'Specialist' at Hughesnet, they reported that they themselves could not access the site. After a long dialog, the Technical Support 'Specialist' had made a slip and acknowledged the website was on a block list."
AllOurQuilts provides a small social network for Quilters with less then 50 visitors a day. All attempts to contact Hughesnet management for a response were denied.
Jokingly MGParisi added "I guess my small Quilting website provides a serous enough threat to Hughesnet's services that they decided to limit access to it.""
