An anonymous reader writes "Dear Slashdot, I was recently involved in a discussion about the possibility to commercially use Creative Commons Attribution images. Let's consider, for example, adding thousands of CC-BY images to a searchable database. The CC-BY images would be carefully indexed thus providing an effective mean to find them... and buy them. AFAIK the CC-BY license allows it provided the original authors get proper attribution, but what would be the CC community reaction ? Would it be softened by donating a substantial percentage of the revenues to organizations such as Wikimedia Foundation or CC itself ?"
