File system corruption on Ubuntu Jaunty 0

palpatin writes "It turns out that the latest flavor of Ubuntu ships with a faulty kernel, that currupts the file system on very common hardware configurations present in e.g. many newer laptops. What's amazing is that this bug was first reported way back in the Alpha-stages of the Jaunty release cycle, and was present even in the Beta. The common traits seems to be a combination of Intel memory controllers, NVidia graphics cards and running a 64 bit kernel. The good news is that upgrading to a newer (unsupported by Ubuntu) kernel seems to solve the problem. But the question still lingers: how did this ever get released?"

Dionysius, God of Wine and Leaf, points to a Yahoo! story which begins "Google on Wednesday handed over data stored by suspected pedophiles on its Orkut social networking site to Brazilian authorities, ceding to pressure to lift its confidentiality duty to its users, officials said."

The Pirate Bay now says the site will promote the International Federation of Pirates Interests." IFPI can still be reached at ifpi.org."
