In my experience, there is a significant percentage (IME, most, but others may differ) of businesses that rely on Best Buy for hardware replacements. They see additional hardware lying around as a waste, and will not keep spares handy.

Umm, no. EC2 is not 'open'. You have access to their API to develop applications that run on the Amazon cloud, but in no way are you able to replicate that cloud internally without completely re-engineering it.

You seem to be focusing your definition of 'cloud' on application development environment clouds, while the poll is including IAAS clouds as options as well.

Let's be honest - IAAS offerings have there place, as do SAAS clouds. You need to select the correct tool for the job.
