The Nouveau driver in the current Linux 3.8 development branch has recently acquired everything that's necessary to support the 3D acceleration features of any GeForce graphics hardware. Together with a current version of libdrm and the Nouveau 3D driver in Mesa 3D 9.0, this allows Linux applications to use 3D acceleration even with the most recent GeForce graphics cards."

Techno2012 writes "Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has acquired privately held PPC, makers of broadband connectivity solutions such as the popular brand PerfectPath, for $515.7 million.

The acquisition brings Belden into the higher-end cable market, which combined with its marketshare in the signal transmission area, will make it a formidable option as part of the Belden Broadcast Solutions platform.

According to details from Belden, PPC has an operating margin above 22 percent, which made it “accretive to Belden’s consolidated operating results” and for its stock price.

PPC, with 2012 revenues of approximately $238 million, made a splash in the custom electronics market when it came out with an HDMI locking connector."

Personally I have a VPS in every country I want to get content from. I have a US VPSs, for Netflix, Pandora an whatever else. I have a UK VPS for BBC iPlayer, Channel4 and so on. Cheap as chips generally. I think my UK one cost $30 a year! Sell the service to my friends, and bingo I've made my money back, and I don't have to worry (too much) about some third party stealing all of my traffic

muktware writes "Sykpe pushed an update today which brought this video calling capabilities to Android phones. Android phones already have Google' Gtalk service which offer video calling capabilities on phone running Android 2.3.4.

As expected only select phones, with needed hardware, will be able to make video calls using Skype.

The lucky few include Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo and Sony Ericsson Xperia pro. Skype said on its page that support for other phones is coming soon."

PCI compliance can be a cover up, and a cover story over many troubled companies. I work at one, where I was instructed to be creative when it came to giving answers. Patching was always an annual affair, generally before the auditor came onsite. As for external pens tests, they can be faked. At one stage we pointed the pen testers at a non-production test system, with a completely different version of software. Thank god I am out of that sector now. Sony are liable for costs from the Credit card companies. I was told it was $100 an exposed card number. So they could be liable for billions.

+ - Gmail Inaccessible Worldwide

neural.disruption writes "Publico(European Portuguese Newspaper) has some news about Gmail being inaccessible to most users around the world, since at least 9.30 GMT, with an estimate of 43 million accounts affected only in the US.

Google confirms the problem is worldwide and says they're working on it but don't disclose anything else about the nature or origin of the problem.

I could only find the news on the Portuguese newspaper and could not found it in any of the regular places like CNET or TechNews, but I can confirm that at least I and six other people can't even access Gmail site without receiving a server error notice.

So I ask how is the problem affecting you people?"
