I've got a question. Has anybody ever (outside of a movie) managed to hack into a system behind a completely locked down firewall. This laptop has every port closed, with the exception of 22. As I see it the only source of attack is to try to hack in through SSH. Assuming all ports are closed, it should be impossible to get in, that's the whole point. So my question is whether anybody, in the history of the firewall, has ever managed to get in through a firewall like that? I don't see how it's possible, where would you start.

Just thought I'd challenge the knee-jerk reaction of "WTF, who would do that!"

AutoFsck - fsck streamlined for desktop Ubuntu.->

musther writes "AutoFsck v2.5 has just been released. It's a script to make fsck play nicely for desktop users of Ubuntu. Basically, rather than running the 'just-in-case' fsck (every n mounts) at boot, the script moves it to shutdown, and prompts the user first to ask whether it's convenient. Many die-hard Linux users seem to think this user-friendly approach lacks something, use of the command line maybe, and would rather simply change the frequency of the fsck with tune2fs. But in these days of Linux on the desktop and laptop, and such users requiring fast boot times in demanding environments, isn't this exactly the type of user oriented rethinking that we need — for laptop/desktop Ubuntu at least?"

Slingshot - All New FOSS Simulation-Strategy Game->

Submitted by

musther writes "Slingshot is an all new (and open source) turn based simulation strategy game. The game consists of two spaceships whose objective is to destroy each other. Between them lies a field of planets, their gravity affecting the trajectory of the projectiles. This gravitational effect makes the game challenging, interesting, and endless fun!
We're proud to announce our first release version (v0.8p) for Linux and Windows (with Mac in a working but harder-to-set-up state). Check out http://www.slingshot-game.org for more information, screenshots, documentation and downloads."
