I'd like the class to help determine what the topic for essay 4 should be. Remember, Essay 4 is a claim of policy essay, a big research project. So it should answer the question "What should we (or someone else) do?" We've already discussed traffic enforcement and fast food lawsuits. What issues interest you? Post at least one comment by the end of this week suggesting a topic.
a topic that interests me is how should be catergorize race on surveys. it seems like in todays society, there are a lot of mixes, like black and white, white and hispanic, and black and hispanic. what bubble should be marked? and what does the "other" bubble mean?
I think a good topic for essay 4 would be What America should do instead of going to war. This subject is current and is important, it may bring some students up to date on what is going on in the world because we are part of it.
I am also interested in the topic brought up by st-wwjd. I am a multiracial female, (my mother is white and my dad is black), and since I was little I have always had a problem when it comes to filling out the race portion. There is only an option to mark one race, and I am not just black and I am not just white, I am both. But I have marked both black and white regardless of the instructions to just mark one. Because I am very proud of both my heritages. I do not believe that I should have to chose to
I think a good topic for essay four could be about parents and how much control they can have over a college aged student. Currently my parents are trying to crake down on me more than they did when I was in high school. I mean I understand they are paying for my school and they just want the best for me. But how am I suppose to grow up and learn about the real world if they keep pulling me back and not allowing me to be who I was meant to be.
i agree, i think a nice topic for essay 2 would be what is right age or time for parents to offically let go our their child and let them grown up on there on. let them make our decision and truel be responibly for them. i know my parents are one of the many that still lanch on and wont let go for some reason.
i think that we should write a paper on the current situation with iraq. it is happening now and would probably help us understand a lot more about what is going on in the world and how things work.
If race is supposedly not an issue for the United States anymore, then why do we have to fill out what race we are when we fill out school forms, job applications, etc. I think essay #4 should be creating a policy to get rid of that biased question on all forms and applications.
I would be interested in finding out more about the idea of bringing back the draft. What would be better? Should we institute the draft if the war continues for more than six months or a year? What would that mean in terms of cost to our economy and would it benefit us as a country to have everyone contribute, this would possibly reduce the amount of protests against the war if you see first hand what is at stake....
