Sawney S writes "A 20-year-old Des Moines man is charged with assaulting a police officer with candy.
Officials say McGuire, student at Drake, was arrested at a convenience store. He threw several M&M candies at a Des Moines police officer, that at the time was investigating an accident involving an intoxicated man, a hit-and-run.
Police reports said Drake security guards on the scene noticed M&M candies falling on the ground around the officer.
The accused claims he threw the candy because he was defending his friend who apparently was the same man suspected in the hit-and-run.
