Journal: It's a Funny old World

Things are going downhill here, if that is still at all possible. Attitudes are getting more militant, the trolls are revolting and the moderators appear to be on crack++, whatever that may be.

This account mysteriously started posting at 0 many moons ago despite being karma-capped.

Now I find that postings from my new account are not being moderated up no matter how informative or rational, at the expense of surrounding lies, half-truths, propaganda and teenage militancy.

Oh well, this is slashdot after all, and we really shouldn't take it too seriously.

Over the years I've noticed that these things come and go in waves. We're in the middle of a "troll storm" just now. I don't just mean the postings, I also mean the moderation. You can post anonymously, but again, it is usually the most controversial and biggoted that floats to the surface.

Is there a metaphor in there somewhere?

I am getting bored with Radio 4.

Journal: The World and Strangeness

Today, a fundamental change came over me. As my wife and I were driving into work, we were listening to Today on BBC Radio 4 as usual. Now, I've heard many people's philisophy on life before, but today the penny dropped, so to speak.

I have been smiling, giggling, chuckling and laughing ever since.

Do you know what's also funny? I reached a karam cap. Now all my posts are at 0. This was first observed during a flamewar with a Microsoft fanboy trying to extoll the virtues of the Windows NT(TM etc.) threading architecture. Obviously their financial influence in the academic community is haivng an effect.

Aw, said Henry's Cat, it's a funny old world.

I've never been canoeing before, but I imagine there must be just a few simple heuristics you have to remember... Yes, don't fall out, and don't hit rocks.

Working...
