  Computer languages and religious affiliation 2008-02-16 18:45 mgkimsal2

Submitted by mgkimsal2 on Saturday February 16, @06:45PM
mgkimsal2 writes "Last month I put together a survey to get developers' views on their languages of choice and their religious affiliation. We had over 3800 replies from all over the world in just a few days, and I've gotten around to starting to visualize the data. While the survey wasn't perfect, the results are still interesting, and the raw data is available for download to do with what you will."

  Computer language and religious affiliation 2008-01-26 19:11 mgkimsal2

Submitted by mgkimsal2 on Saturday January 26, @07:11PM
mgkimsal2 writes "Is there a link between computer language use and religious affiliation? I've been wondering what sorts of computer languages people use, what religion people associate with, and if there's any interesting conclusions that might be drawn from this information. Please take a moment to fill out this survey. I fully realize that this is wholly *not* scientific — I don't claim that it is, but it'll be interesting to see the results at the end anyway. I plan to make either the raw data or the compiled results available by the end of Feb, 2008."

darrenkopp writes "Scott Gunthrie announced today that Microsoft will be releasing the full source code for their .NET framework, including comments, for download later this year. It will be released under the Microsoft Reference License (MS-RL). Doing this will allow developers to both view the source code, as well as step into sections of with a debugger that formerly were unavailable. It is unknown how this will affect Mono development, but assuredly this will speed it up. However, one may wonder, based on Microsoft and Novell's recent agreements, if the Mono community could use large poritions of the frameworks code."

  .NET library source code released[->] 2007-10-03 13:32 mgkimsal2

Submitted by mgkimsal2 on Wednesday October 03 2007, @01:32PM
mgkimsal2 writes "Scott Guthrie just announced that the .NET libraries will be released under a MS Reference License beginning with the .NET 3.5 release. It's "only" a reference license — look but don't redistribute or copy — but it's yet another leap by MS in to the world of opening up source code."
