It would be nice to have the karma scores on each reply to your posts here, so that you can get a sense if replies are worth reading. Also it would be really nice to have a link to user.pl on the masthead.

  • I understand there was a time when new code on slashdot meant actually making things better.

    They don't do that anymore.

      This makes me sad.

I suppose there could be a way to improve it with the source code.

You're not alone on that one.

They haven't released the source code in years. You can download a very old version of it and work on that if you feel so inclined.

Of course, the old code has the advantage of not having all the new bugs in it.

There are plenty of people scattered around here who would like to launch a new page to do what slashdot used to do, but of course it is a cat-herding exercise to actually gather those people towards a single common goal. I have seen a few sites launch over the y

I certainly agree with you here. Slashdot was definitely an era of great ideas coming together in a sea of random people. You're right though. The next big tech site won't be like Slashdot. It will be unique to whatever audience it supports.

Hacker news is indeed minimalist. I love it!

The info there scoops most sites like Reddit used to.
