+ - ICANN wants immunity

Submitted by
rprins
rprins writes "In what maybe a reaction to recent Homeland Security demands a strategic report by ICANN suggests the organization should take on the model of a private international organization. That would make it immune from US law and regulations. However, it's more than likely the Bush administration will not grant ICANN these privileges, so the organization opts to relocate to Switzerland where those privileges are attainable."

+ - Hurricane Forecasts Were Dust-Busted

Submitted by
SeaDour
SeaDour writes "A NASA study is claiming that one of the major reasons last year's hurricane season was so tame compared to the initial forecasts may have been due to increased dust storm activity in Africa's Sahara Desert. The dust particles drifted over the Atlantic, blocking sunlight to the water below which allowed it to cool significantly. "Dust concentrations may play as big a role as other atmospheric conditions, like El Nino, and offer some predictive value, so they should be closely monitored to improve hurricane forecasts," said lead author William Lau."

Apple Announces More Options Troubles 159

Posted by CowboyNeal
from the setting-the-record-straight dept.
fremen writes "Apple today announced that they will be withdrawing their financial reports back to September 29, 2002 and delaying the filing of future reports after finding more backdated options problems. Companies backdate their stock options by looking back over a period of time and choosing a historical low as the option strike price. While not illegal, this must be fully disclosed to investors and properly accounted. Expect more uncertainty in the coming weeks as regulators must now uncover how much of Apple's record profits were incorrect as well as whether or not Steve Jobs will be able to continue leading the company."

Another megabytes the dust.
