I'm sure it has nothing to do with bad hardware or bad drivers that randomly refuse to wake up from hibernation and the hassles and expense of supporting related issues.

Named Titanoboa cerrejonensis by its discoverers, the size of the snake's vertebrae suggest it weighed 1140 kg (2,500 pounds) and measured 13 meters (42.7 feet) nose to tail tip. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest snake ever measured was 10 meters (33 feet) in length. The heaviest snake, a python, weighed 183 kilograms (403 pounds)."

Until now, individuals or businesses with information stored on S3 had to pay data-transfer costs to Amazon when others made use of the information. Amazon said the new Requester Pays option relieves data providers of that burden, leaving them to pay only the basic storage fees for the cloud computing service. The bigger question with the cloud is, who really pays? Mark Everett Hall argues that IT workers do."

It would authorize the Justice Department to file civil lawsuits against people engaged in peer-to-peer copyright infringement — with the proceeds going to the company or person who owns the copyright."

oostevo writes "According to Wired, Hushmail, who claim that "not even a Hushmail employee with access to our servers can read your encrypted e-mail, since each message is uniquely encoded before it leaves your computer" have given unencrypted email to investigators following a court order from a Canadian court in a steroid-related investigation.
In Hushmail's defense, however, it would seem that they were compelled to exploit a security vulnerability to steal user's passphrases and decrypt their mail. They also have been very frank in discussing the situation and their response [pdf link]."
