Well said. Going back to the original article, in the UK it's a crime to publish these kinds of "hateful views" if a court deems that it might "stir up hostility". So the crime is not the thought, but the publication and the intention of the author in so doing. I'd like to see a test case where a racist only published to other racists. Surely then he would not be stirring up hatred since it already existed in the first place? Maybe the secret is to add a front door to the site requiring the reader to confirm he or she is already a racist and is unlikely to be stirred by reading the article?

The name of the role would depend upon the application to which you apply your HTML. Some people use HTML to make pretty pages (web designers, web artists) whereas others are cleanly displaying useful data (information architects) or help with device-independent data access (iPod sitesmiths). Still others like to write most of the app on the client-side by interweaving HTML with jQuery JavaScript and suchlike (web developers). Etc...

Java is open source software. If Oracle likes it that much, it can do a "Red Hat" and simply shadow or fork it with its own dev team. It might do a better job too. Surely that's cheaper than the $7bn or so it would cost to buy Sun with its workforce of 30,000 people. (Oracle's workforce is 86,600 people, so that would add 35% to the headcount!)

Apart from InnoDB, Oracle doesn't really have a history of open source involvement. I just can't see Sun the company being attractive to Oracle (but MySQL, the database sure would be). Just my 2c. I hold put options on JAVA shares and am waiting to cash them in the next month or so.

Despite the changes in copy semantics from PHP4 to PHP5, most code written for PHP4 runs fine as PHP5. If changes are necessary, they are very minor since PHP5 mostly adds new capabilities (apart from the pass-by-reference stuff). If the coder was using "&" before in his PHP4 code, then it will work fine without changes in PHP5. The bigger question for me is whether the excellent www.cakePHP.org framework will continue to support PHP4 now it's deprecated.
