horigath writes: "Jackson Lears takes aim at a resurgence of nineteenth-century style scientific positivism, held up by influential scientists who have increasingly turned towards writing pop philosophy including Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawnkins, Daniel Dennet and especially Sam Harris who's work he reviews. He suggests that like in the early twentieth century, ethics based on flawed positivist views of science can lead to danger and atrocity–where once it supported eugenics now it holds up torture, "collateral damage", imperialism and (anti-) religious war. "He [Sam Harris] may well be a fine neuroscientist. He might consider spending more time in his lab.""
