Btcd - a Bitcoind Alternative Written In Go! 150

An anonymous reader writes "The folks at Conformal have announced btcd, an alternative full-node implementation to bitcoind, written in Go! They have released the first of their core packages, btcwire, available for download at GitHub. As a bitcoin user myself, I love the idea of a full alternative. It will only make bitcoin stronger and more independent. This will be great for the Go community, too!"

Even if they don't... this causes an extra 1.5 seconds per user to aim at and then click the "FREE PREVIEW" link. Multiply this by millions of views, and you're talking about hundreds of extra hours of viewing. Google Analytics can measure the average time spent on a page (as well as page views, thus total cumulative time), which can, in theory, translate into varying advertising rates.

The only impression I get is that Slashdot tries to get more page views by forcing users to click the "FREE PREVIEW" link to RTFS, and thus get more advertising dollars. Very lame attempt to monetize April Fool's and doesn't bring me a hint of a smile. Slashdot, I expected better from you.

United States Begins Flying Stealth Bombers Over South Korea 567

skade88 writes "The New York Times is reporting that the United States has started flying B-2 stealth bomber runs over South Korea as a show of force to North Korea. The bombers flew 6,500 miles to bomb a South Korean island with mock explosives. Earlier this month the U.S. Military ran mock B-52 bombing runs over the same South Korean island. The U.S. military says it shows that it can execute precision bombing runs at will with little notice needed. The U.S. also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting its allies in the region. The North Koreans have been making threats to turn South Korea into a sea of fire. North Korea has also made threats claiming they will nuke the United States' mainland."

The U.S. government has better legal things to worry about than a few potheads getting high legally. Perhaps like, for instance, mentally-unstable individuals able to obtain semi-automatic assault riffle, also legally, and killing 28 individuals at a public school. Just sayin'.

Does anyone else recall Felix Baumgartner telling mission control he felt no heating from his helmet?
At that point, the audio was cut from the live stream while we could see the mission control discussing it.

When audio came back about 30 seconds later, neither mission control nor the commentator even mentioned the incident.
Just now, the commentator mentioned that they're "troubleshooting" the issue, not knowing if it was the senor not working or the heating actually not working.

It's around 12C in the capsule, but outside it would be -45C plus wind factor of several hundred km/h. If the heat in his helmet is really not working, I guess they probably will abort the jump?
