+ - Close but no Cigar from Netflix 1

Ponca City, We Love You
Ponca City, We Love You writes "In October 2006, Netflix, the online movie rental service, announced that it would award $1 million to the first team to improve the accuracy of Netflix's movie recommendations by 10% based on personal preferences. Each contestant was given a set of data from which three million predictions were made about how certain users rated certain movies and Netflix compared that list with the actual ratings and generated a score for each team. More than 27,000 contestants from 161 countries submitted their entries and some got close, but not close enough. Today Netflix announced that it is awarding an annual progress prize of $50,000 to a group of researchers at AT&T Labs, who improved the current recommendation system by 8.43 percent but the $1 million grand prize is still up for grabs and a $50,000 progress prize will be awarded every year until the 10 percent goal is met. As part of the rules of the competition, the team was required to disclose their solution publicly. (pdf)"

fullcircleflight (883189) writes "A 21-year-old man from Sydney Australia faces up to five years' imprisonment after he was charged with uploading a pirated copy of The Simpsons Movie on the internet. Adrianne Pecotic, executive director of the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft, said it was the first illegal copy of the hit movie to be intercepted anywhere in the world. Police alleged the man illegally filmed the movie via a mobile phone on July 26, the first day of release, and within hours had uploaded the footage onto the internet. The man was arrested in a raid on his home yesterday and charged by Federal Police with copyright theft after information provided to the AFP by the movie's producer, 20th Century Fox in the US. Pecotic said the illegal footage was removed within two hours, but not before it was downloaded about 3000 times. The file quickly spread to BitTorrent sites and other file sharing networks and within 72 hours had been downloaded by another 110,000 people."

I've always wanted a DECENT transport management program, I wish Rush Hour offered more.

For some reason, I think it would be fun to have the option to choose between things like:
- traffic lights stop signs or round-a-bout at intersection
- how many lanes a certain road has
- traffic light signal timing
- bus lanes
- no parking signs etc.

So far, no such game software exists. Locomotion was addictive but highly flawed.

If imprinted foil seal under cap is broken or missing when purchased, do not use.
