Star Wars Prequels

+ - This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For->

Submitted by fractalVisionz
fractalVisionz (989785) writes "The White House officially responded to the petition to secure resources and funding to begin Death Star construction by 2016, as previously covered by Slashdot. With costs estimated over $850,000,000,000,000,000 (that's quadrillion), and a firm policy stating "The Administration does not support blowing up planets" the US government will obviously pass. However, that is not to say that we do not already have a death star of our own, floating approximately 120 miles above the earth's surface.

The response ends in a call to those interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields of study:

If you do pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field, the Force will be with us! Remember, the Death Star's power to destroy a planet, or even a whole star system, is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

+ - Kindle Development Kit Announced->

Submitted by fractalVisionz
fractalVisionz (989785) writes "Amazon has just announced a Kindle Development Kit coming in the next month. It will be first released as a limited beta, so reserve you place in line fast.

From the press release:

The Kindle Development Kit enables developers to build active content that leverages Kindle's unique combination of seamless and invisible 3G wireless delivery over Amazon Whispernet, high-resolution electronic paper display that looks and reads like real paper, and long battery life of seven days with wireless activated. For example, Handmark is building an active Zagat guide featuring their trusted ratings, reviews and more for restaurants in cities around the world, and Sonic Boom is building word games and puzzles.

Additionally, the revenue sharing was announced, "User revenue will be split 70% to the developer and 30% to Amazon net of delivery fees of $0.15 / MB. Remember that unlike smart phones, the Kindle user does not pay a monthly wireless fee or enter into an annual wireless contract.""

+ - Buy the Milky Way Galaxy 1

Submitted by fractalVisionz
fractalVisionz (989785) writes "In an attempt to replicate Lunar Embassy, an anonymous group called the Milky Way Team claims to have gained ownership rights to the Milky Way. With this possession, they are now auctioning it off on eBay. From the FAQ, 40% of all proceeds will go to charity, with possibly more if the price is right.

Currently there are 13 bids at a price of $224.72. Be the second to own the Milky Way today."
