Censorship

+ - The Gentleperson's Guide To Forum Spies->

denis-The-menace writes: Many slashdot readers have complained over the past few years that the Slashdot moderation system is broken. Now I think I know why. I've been a Slashdot participant since the 1990s, and used to have a low-numbered account. I don't like censorship. A lot. I was surprised and offended when I discovered active censorship happening right on Slashdot. Read on for details.

+ - Is Google Chrome The New IE 6 For Web Designers?->

denis-The-menace writes: "Just when you thought you were done with IE 6 and its hacks and exceptions, now you've got a new browser to consider: Google's Chrome.

The good news is that Chrome is a lot more compatible with web standards than IE 5 and 6. However, Chrome has its own idiosyncrasies and bugs."

+ - Canadian Gov killing electric car manufacturers

denis-The-menace writes: There are two electric car manufacturers in Canada — and the Canadian government is killing them both. They are shutting down because the government won't let them sell in Canada — even though they can sell in the United States, which has the same standards. http://www.greenparty.ca/en/node/3045

+ - Using DVI/USB KVM switches with legacy PCs

denis-The-menace writes: "I would like to have a KVM switch with modern connectors (DVI / USB) but still have a way to use legacy PCs (VGA / PS/2) on it. For converting PS/2 connectors on a legacy PC to USB you can get converters (eg. $60 @ y-mouse.com). For converting a VGA connector on a legacy PC to DVI, I suppose you could use the DVI-2-VGA converter that comes with most video cards these days, plug that in the DVI connector in the KVM and use a regular VGA extension cable back to the legacy PC. I called tech support at Avocent but the clueless "telephone lifter" at the other end gave me the runaround. Has anybody tried to do this already or am I chasing a pipe dream?"

+ - NASA' s missing Apollo 11 Footage Found

denis-The-menace writes: Pink Floyd's Peter Clifton was sitting watching television when he saw NASA was searching for original Apollo 11 footage. He had forgotten that in 1979 he ordered footage from The Smithsonian for use in The Dark Side of The Moon demo film. He had all but forgotten a pristine 16-millimetre film of the moon landing was part of his vast personal film catalogue
