People that say marijuana harms those around through smoke must never have heard of edibles or vaporizing. Don't make the whole argument about a single method, of which there are quite a few. Secondly, obligatory Bill Hicks: "We are losing the war against drugs." You know what that implies? There's a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it."

How Nearby Supernovae Affected Life On Earth 109 109

sycodon writes with news of research into how nearby supernovae affected the development of life on Earth. "[Professor Henrik Svensmark] found that the changing frequency of nearby supernovae seems to have strongly shaped the conditions for life on Earth. Whenever the Sun and its planets have visited regions of enhanced star formation in the Milky Way Galaxy, where exploding stars are most common, life has prospered. Prof. Svensmark remarks in the paper, "The biosphere seems to contain a reflection of the sky, in that the evolution of life mirrors the evolution of the Galaxy.' ... The data also support the idea of a long-term link between cosmic rays and climate, with these climatic changes underlying the biological effects. And compared with the temperature variations seen on short timescales as a consequence of the Sun's influence on the influx of cosmic rays, the heating and cooling of the Earth due to cosmic rays varying with the prevailing supernova rate have been far larger.""

Bingo! Hubbard was a genius. Most religions appeal to the poor and lower middle class by letting them know that having too much money is a bad thing and they will get their reward in the afterlife where, presumably, the rich will get punished. Hubbard made it a good thing to have money. You can buy your way! Brilliant! Wish I would have thought of that :(

Personally I wish that every game was available to be bought online for consoles. I am actually pretty shocked that there are quite a few games that I can't buy online, especially new releases. When the closest game store is at least a half hour away in traffic, I would just rather not buy the game. It also encourages more impulse buying from me. When I end up with some free time and read about an interesting game... I want to play it now. If I can't play it now, I will just find a good book to read, which I can easily find online.

It looks like there are still more studies needed if we really want to understand what is going on here.

The treated bees were about two to three times more likely to die while away from their nests, and the researchers said this was probably because the pesticide interfered with the bees' homing systems, so they couldn't find their way home.

That seems like quite the leap in logic, but I don't have the actual study in front of me. That pesticide harms bees sounds like a REALLY obvious conclusion, I kinda like bees and what they do for us.

Any program which runs right is obsolete.
