damn_registrars's Journal: Where Is Your Spine, Mrs. Bachmann? 11

Journal by damn_registrars
Recently, Republican US Representative Michele Bachmann was challenged to a debate on US History and Civics by a 16-year-old girl from New Jersey. This may seem a little odd, that a representative from Minnesota (born in Iowa) would be specifically challenged by a girl from New Jersey, although this girl in particular had the following to say about some of what Bachmann has said publicly:

I have found quite a few of your statements regarding the Constitution of the United States, the quality of public school education and general U.S. civics matters to be factually incorrect, inaccurately applied or grossly distorted

Mrs. Bachmann has so far not responded to the request. And while she cannot be said to endorse all the actions of her supporters, what has come from some of her supporters speaks volume about political discourse in our country today:
Cherry Hill Teen Threatened With Violence and Rape After Challenging Bachmann to Debate
From the article:

A lot of them are calling me a whore, Myers said of the anonymous postings. Amy and her father said the comments from conservative websites alarmed them most. Some commenters threatened to publish her home address. Others threatened violence. Some threatened rape.

The 16-year-old went on to point out just how disgusting of a job Bachmann herself does:

As one of a handful of women in Congress, you hold a distinct privilege and responsibility to better represent your gender nationally. The statements you make help to serve an injustice to not only the position of Congresswoman, but women everywhere.

We are expecting that Mrs. Bachmann will be in Iowa soon to announce her intention to run for the GOP Presidential nomination. Currently there is no expectation for her to respond specifically to this request for a debate, however.

I sure am glad that I'm a white male, as only persons like I seem to be able to live their lives for themselves, without owing their race or gender or whatever else a certain way of behaving or talking about things.

  • I used to lean slightly right (as you well know from our previous threads damn_registrars due to some financial issues) meaning i hated a some politicians that were left and hated slightly less that were right. (all hatred, no "likes") After reading some of your journal entries throughout the past months I can conclusively say I am now non-biased and hate all politicians.

It may have been this girl was being used to debate Mrs. Bachmann, but that does not justify the crude treatment of this girl. Damn pol

    • While Bachmann herself has no true sense of "fair" or "just", it would be neither to say that she explicitly shows hatred towards the 16-year-old New Jersey girl. It is followers of Bachmann and her movement that are threatening the girl with rape and violence, not Bachmann herself. While I see Bachmann as having the vast majority of her "facts" wrong, I do not see any reason to support a claim of her endorsing such actions against someone who she does not wish to interact with.

But what about threats of violence and rape et al, from the angle of how successful they could be at their intended effects. What if these supporters of her godessness didn't really mean it, but they were just doing it to try to coerce the girl (or rather her parents (and the opposition in general)) to back off. From a cheap political thrust-and-parry game POV, this could be viewed as the Left attacks with a dirty trick and the Right defends by playing even dirtier.

        • That is a whole different level of cynicism there, to believe that a high school girl calling out a US Representative as being an idiot is a "dirty trick" form "the Left".

What if these supporters of her godessness didn't really mean it

But if the people who threatened to rape a 16-year-old girl did not mean to make such a threat, then why did they make that specific threat? Why not threaten to toilet paper her house instead? Rape is, after all, a very serious and violent offence. There is a reason why rape is a felony and toilet papering is not.

          In other words, th

I'm at a similar place, in a way. I still hate all politicians on the Left and slightly less on the Right. So I'm still biased, but I hate all politicians enough that I'll vote for business owners before politicians when I can. (In general, the longer someone's been in politics, the more I hate them. Ms. Bachmann hasn't been in very long, I don't think.) So now that The Donald is out of the running, my hope is that Mr. Godfathers Pizza can pull something out. (DR might be glad to know that I think his "Mr.

Someone should set this misandrist teen straight, and not by threats of Republican violence but education. Should males represent males, blacks represent blacks, whites represent whites? No, your representative should represent the voters. ALL the voters, regardless of race, gender, political party, or anything else.
