How do they do that?

Software

How does a company charge so much for software that doesn't work? I've been an Oracle DBA/Financials Application Manager for years and i'm just amased at the lack of quality from oracle in regards to its softare and support.

Basically the gist is you can license the software for millions of dollars, but it basically will NOT work unless you also buy commercial services (consulting) and the rather expensive support services.

What are you paying for these days? What laws are there to protect you and your business from software/services that are sold to you that don't work until have you spent millions more?

How does a company get so big and provide such horrible services??

It just amazes me that Lary Ellison can prounce around playing microsoft like a bad guy when his products are 10x buggier, 100x bulkier and 1345342142x more expensive?

Take financials for example. There is no stable release you can install. You have to install 11.5.9 and then 11.5.9 rollup1 and then any post patches. The sad part is unless you buy the support contract you dont have access to the patches or support to get issues fixed. I would think functionality requirements override a support contract and if anything oracle should be providing free consulting to get there sh*t fixed!

Just a rant, but i'm sick of it! Sick of the industry, sick of the nonsense, and sick of the people making millions from selling sh**y software!

Well, this month is my 1 year anniversary for turboweb.net. I'd been in business hosting aviation and news sites on a small scale but now i have grown to a few servers and hundreds of sites!

A good accomplishment in itself. Not much of a profit because i'm putting everything back in but i must say i'm happy and my customers are happy and thats what counts.

What a week i tell you. I somehow got in the middle of a merger, acquisition a financial system upgrade and a contracts system upgrade all at the same time.

That is alot of work and hard on your soul. Yeah, i love my job but how many 100 hour work weeks can you do?

Atleast i got to relieve some stress by taking monday off and flying. I finally changed the oil in my car, i figure i waiting almost 5,000 miles hehe.. i did put that oil extender in tehre but i figure that doesn't really help out a whole hell of alot.

well, back to work i go. Need to finish the 11i implementation by the middle of feb.. joy.

I started flying

So i started flying.

I never realized what it was like to take control of your life, your dreams and your reality. Flying is putting yourself in absolute control. You control what is up, what is down, how fast you go up, how fast you go down.

In a way, you control your destiny.

Hence, i'm taking my time :). I'm going to a flight school here in Lancaster PA. I have a great instructor who is smart and can take the edge off being nervous for the first few trips.

Started the ground school courses as well. Awfull lot to learn, amazing it becomes second nature, but isn't that what training is for? Aferall this computer shit is easy as pie for me, but greek to other people

So one day, you may see my flying my cessna over your house, or landing in a nearby airport. You should give it a try. Have you ever felt what it was like to be up there with the birds? Take control of your reality and your dreams. The money doesn't mean squat with the shear excitement, pleasure and beauty of flying.

Like Nike says, just do it.
